Gabii sa Kabilin 2024: This Night of Museums is Epic!

Gabii sa Kabilin

The much-anticipated annual event, Gabii sa Kabilin (GSK), is set to return on May 10, 2024, with organizers expecting a record-breaking 10,000 participants. The heritage tour, a staple event in Cebu’s cultural calendar, is set to be the biggest yet this year. Organizers are distributing free tickets to residents, workers, and students in partner local government units to boost attendance.

Celebrating National Heritage Month

As the only event of its kind in the Philippines, GSK has a special role in celebrating National Heritage Month. This year’s theme, “Beloved Bisaya,” draws inspiration from a quote by 17th-century Jesuit missionary Fr. Francisco Ignacio Alcina. The theme reflects the enduring cultural pride and rich history of the Visayas region.

The tour, spanning four cities—Cebu, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, and Talisay—will take participants on a journey through time. It is where they can visit a diverse range of heritage sites and museums. Attendees can explore historical landmarks like Fort San Pedro and the 1730 Jesuit House (Museo Parian sa Sugbo). They can also visit the Cebu City Museum and the Sugbu Chinese Heritage Museum to immerse themselves in Cebu’s rich history.

Additionally, participants can enjoy a variety of cultural performances, food markets, contests, and activities for children. The event has arranged 30 buses and 35 tartanillas (traditional horse-drawn carriages) for transportation. This ensures that everyone can easily experience the night’s festivities.

A Wide Range of Participating Sites

The heritage tour in Cebu City includes a wealth of attractions, such as the University of San Carlos Museum, Archdiocesan Museum of Cebu, Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño Museum, BPI Museum, Casa Gorordo Museum, Cebu Normal University Museum, Palm Grass the Cebu Heritage Hotel, and Fo Guang Shan Chu Un Temple.

Moreover, outside Cebu City, GSK participants can explore Mandaue City Presidencia, Museo de Talisay, and the Liberty Shrine in Lapu-Lapu City. Each location offers a unique glimpse into the region’s history and culture.

Ticket Information and Event Details

The tour will commence at 6 p.m. and conclude at midnight on May 11. For P300, participants get priority entry, unlimited bus rides, a tartanilla ride, access to special activities, and a GSK map. They are available at selected participating sites, with extended GSK kiosks in Ayala Central Bloc and Ayala Central Cebu.

The Department of Tourism in Central Visayas, Ayala Central Bloc, Ayala Center Cebu, Cebu IT Park, and Islands Souvenir back Gabii sa Kabilin 2024.
