Iran Threatens Retaliation Against Israel’s Nuclear Facilities Amid Escalating Tensions

Iran and Israel

The recent surge in violence, involving Iran-aligned groups across the Middle East, has been linked to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Tehran’s first direct attack on Israel, launched late Saturday, was reportedly in retaliation for an earlier Israeli air strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, which resulted in casualties among members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Here are some details according to the report of The Philippines Star.

Threats and Responses

Ahmad Haghtalab, the head of nuclear protection and security for the Revolutionary Guards, issued the threat during a press conference. He stated, “If the Zionist regime (Israel) wants to take action against our nuclear centers and facilities, it will definitely and surely face our reaction.” Haghtalab emphasized that Iran would reciprocate any attack on its nuclear sites, targeting Israeli facilities with advanced weaponry.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel has asserted the country’s right to self-defense following the Iranian attack. However, Iranian officials have warned that any Israeli aggression could lead Tehran to reconsider its nuclear policies.

Iran’s Stance on Nuclear Program

Iran has repeatedly denied seeking nuclear weapons, maintaining that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. However, the country has accused Israel of sabotage attacks on its facilities and assassinations of nuclear scientists in recent years.

Despite efforts by the international community to revive the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, diplomatic efforts have stalled, and Iran has gradually reduced its compliance with the agreement’s terms.

The latest exchange of threats underscores the volatile situation in the region, with both Iran and Israel maintaining a stance of military readiness. As tensions continue to simmer, concerns persist about the potential for further escalation and its implications for stability in the Middle East.
